Nassau County Legislature’s Presiding Officer Diane Yatauro of Glen Cove was the keynote speaker at the recent 60th annual meeting and dinner held by the League of Women Voters (LWV) of Central Nassau.
This year’s anniversary celebration highlighted the League’s founding, history and accomplishments. The focuses of the League’s efforts this year are affordable health care for all, alternatives to incarceration, the 2010 census, and redistricting.
In her keynote speech, Presiding Officer Yatauro said, “The League of Women Voters performs a vital service for Americans. It is the organization that promotes voter participation among all eligible voters. The League also works to safeguard the integrity of the electoral process and has led the way to convince federal and state decision makers that we need reliable, modern technology to accept and count our ballots. I applaud the League’s tireless efforts to safeguard the voting process for all of us.”
