On Sept. 24, the Glen Cove HS Class of 1960 celebrated their 50th reunion with a gala dinner dance at San Souci in Sea Cliff. Over 120 graduates and guests danced to the “Oldies but Goodies” music of the “Acchords.” It was a weekend of celebrating that took those attending from San Souci on Friday, to the Soundview on Saturday for lunch, to Walls Wharf for dinner and finally to the Huntington Hilton for breakfast. All of the events were eagerly attended and a good time was had by all.
The organizing committe, Barbara Winters DiBernardo, Wendy Erickson Freyler, Ann Galafaro Athanasio and Benita Mosquera Hill, worked for over a year in tracking down classmates, and organizing the events.
In the end, only 15 could not be found and sadly, 30 had passed away.
“Special thanks go to Kathy Shields, Theresa Capozzi, Anne Cook, Val and Doris Kaplinski, Mary Jean Caggiano and Richard Bandel who contributed so much of their time in making this the best reunion we had ever had,” said the planners. “Special thanks also goes to Assistant Principal Craig Johanson of the Middle School for a nostalgic tour of our old school.
“Thank you to all of the restaurants who provided fantastic food and who let us stay way past the time that we should have, knowing very well that none of us wanted to leave.”
