Mayor Ralph V. Suozzi has invited all Glen Cove residents to attend the city’s annual Fourth of July Celebration.
Independence Day festivities will begin in the morning on Saturday, July 4, with the annual Children’s Bicycle Parade. At 10 a.m., children should line up at the Finley Middle School horseshoe with their bikes, scooters, trikes and battery-powered “vehicles.” Children are encouraged to decorate their wheels using a patriotic theme. Parents must accompany their children; helmets and protective gear are mandatory. The bike parade will travel down Forest Avenue to School Street to Village Square where children will join the mayor to recite the Pledge of Allegiance and sing patriotic songs. Refreshments will be available. Raindate is Saturday, July 11.
On July 4, Glen Cove residents will be treated to a unique musical experience by two groups, beginning with the Les Stanco Group immediately followed by the Northwinds Band leading up to the evening fireworks display. The concert begins at 5:30 p.m. on the stage in Morgan Memorial Park. All are invited to bring a blanket, chairs and sit back to enjoy the music. The musical experience will continue until 9 p.m. and will be followed by the annual fireworks display. In case of rain, the July 4 concert will be held indoors at St. Patrick’s Church. Fireworks would be rescheduled to Saturday, July 11.
Residents are reminded that their bags and backpacks are subject to search for contraband, including alcohol and fireworks. Parking restrictions will be in effect in the Landing neighborhood on the Fourth of July. There will be no parking all day July 4 on Germaine Street, Landing Road or McLoughlin Street west of Carpenter Street. Parking for people with handicap parking permits will be available in the Morgan Park parking lot.
After the concerts there will be a spectacular fireworks showcase by Bay Fireworks. This year’s fireworks sponsors are: Sidney B.
