Last month, kindergarteners at Sea Cliff Elementary School had a Thanksgiving Celebration that included the shared reading of poems and songs as part of balanced literacy. In preparation for the special day, the students explored different ways of using cranberries like the pilgrims long ago. They made cranberry sauce to give as gifts for their families with decorative cloth called muslin.
But that is not all - the kindergarten classes made cornbread, applesauce, and popcorn which they enjoyed at the Thanksgiving celebration. Additionally, the students engaged in weeks of interactive writing which resulted in the completion of their “I am Thankful” books to share with their peers and at home with their families.
