With the support of the United World Foundation and Irina Sushko, the Glen Cove After-3 students had a chance to visit the Cradle of Aviation. This was no ordinary trip, as the students experienced special classes and a behind-the-scenes tour of the museum. Some of the classes they attended were Living In Space, All About the Stars and a Rockets program.
The After-3 students learned how rockets work, how they fly and even witnessed a rocket launch. The enthusiasm and excitement was apparent on all their faces as they returned to program. This special trip was part of a two-day series, which included a lot of hands-on learning as well as a 3D film showing what it would be like living in space and being part of the space program. The students experienced life in the space station and the feeling of zero gravity. The students were given the chance to be astronauts for a little while.
Applications for the school year program are available at all schools in the district as well as at the GCA3 office located at 70 Forest Ave. Suite 2C and at The Glen Cove Youth Bureau located at 128B Glen Street in Glen Cove.
