Senior Recognition Day 

The annual event will be held in Glen Cove Village Square, or in case of rain, at the Glen Cove Senior Center. 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

 

Tree Planting Ceremony 

There will be a Tree Planting Ceremony at the Locust Valley Library to mark the building’s 100th year of providing community service, from 2 to 4 p.m. Reception to follow in the Community Room.

 

Relay For Life Charity Concert

 Performers from Locust Valley High School will put on a concert in Morgan Memorial Park at 4 p.m. Admission $8; all proceeds go toward Team CasoLearning.

Collecting Shakespeare

Henry and Emily Folger assembled the largest collection of Shakespeare items in the world. In 1932, they established and endowed the Folger Shakespeare Library two blocks from the U.S. Capitol. The couple bought their first home on St. Andrews Lane in Glen Cove. Stephen H. Grant, author of Collecting Shakespeare, the first biography of the Folgers, will present an illustrated lecture about the Folgers and their time in Glen Cove.  A book signing will follow the lecture. At the Glen Cove Library, 2 p.m.

Join the Locust Valley Library’s tennis pro, Steve Abbondondolo, on the courts for a fun introduction to tennis for children, at 10 a.m. Registration required.

 

Mobile Hospital Outreach Program

St. Francis Hospital’s state-of-the-art Community Outreach Bus will be at the Glen Cove Library and nurses will provide free health screenings for individuals over the age of 18.  The screenings include a brief cardiac history, blood pressure testing, a simple blood test for cholesterol and diabetes screening.  Nurses will also provide education and referral information, as needed. The Community Outreach Bus will be parked in the back parking lot of the library, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
