Ann (Stango) Zuccala, 90, of Tuscon, AZ, formerly of Glen Cove, died on April 17, 2009. Daughter of August and Rose (Fusco) Stango. Wife of the late Vincent (Zeke) Zuccala. She is survived by daughter Gloria Van Vlack; grandchildren, Laura Hildebrandt and Shayne (Beverly Monnet) Wallace, Anthony Neely and Damian Radmanovich; and great-great-granddaughter Ireland Meadow Wallace. She was predeceased by her sisters, Mary (George) Basile, Julia (John) Maccarone, Gloria (Frank) Pallone, Dolores (Bill) Peet, Lilly, Florence and Dahlia; and her brothers, Bobby, Oscar, Babe (Florence), Henry(Frances); and Barbara Stango (sister-in-law). Ann will be greatly missed by many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews. And for her gracious and loving heart that touched everyone she ever met. Mass was held at Our Mother of Sorrows Catholic Church, Tucson. Arrangements by Bring's Broadway Chapel, Tucson.

Robert E. Benson, of Locust Valley, died peacefully on April 18, 2009, just short of his 93rd birthday. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Helen. Father of Lanie Ganzenmuller (Peter), Christine Pell (Peter), William (Sara), David and the late Robert Jr. Grandfather of 10 and great- grandfather of seven.

Bob graduated from Brooklyn Friends School, Brooklyn Polytechnic Institute, MIT and Harvard Business School. He served as major in the Army during WWII. After the war he moved with his family back to Sea Cliff where he had lived during the summers as a child. He commuted to New York City and worked for the Equitable Life Assurance Society of the U.S. until 1966, becoming vice president. He then went to work for ITT as special projects vice president until 1975, when he joined White-Weld Merrill Lynch as vice president until 1985.

He served on the boards of the Dime Savings Bank, the YWCA Retirement Fund, the Village of Matinecock as police commissioner, the New York City Rescue Mission, the Locust Valley Library, the vestry of St. John's of Lattingtown and until his death, Beaver Dam Winter Sports Club.

As a young man he was an avid sailor and raced his victory boat Blue Jacket all over Long Island Sound, winning the championship for the summer of 1937.

A memorial service will be held at St. John's of Lattingtown, Locust Valley, May 7 at 11 a.m. Memorial gifts may be made to New York City Rescue Mission, 90 Lafayette St., New York, NY 10013, or St. John's of Lattingtown. Arrangements made by Whitting Funeral Home, Glen Head.

James M. Yoniak, 52, of Boynton Beach, FL, formerly of Glen Cove, died on April 18, 2009. Father of Jamie and Megan. Brother of John (Rosemary), Karen (Mike) Napoli and the late Joseph. Uncle of Jennifer Ringwood, Lisa Pesce, Krystal, Tara, J.R. and Cassandra. Arrangements were made by the McLaughlin Kramer Megiel Funeral Home, Glen Cove. Funeral Mass Friday, May 1 at the Church of St. Patrick at 11:30 a.m. Interment St. Patrick's Cemetery, Brookville. Miriam D. Guido, of Glen Cove, died on April 19, 2009 at age 89. She was a retired professor of Queens College and a Phi Beta Kappa honoree. Wife of Richard J. Mother of Richard L. (Gail) and Robert V. (Gloria). Grandmother of five. Great-grandmother of five. Visiting at the Funeral Home of Dodge-Thomas, Glen Cove. Mass at the Church of St. Rocco. Interment private.

John K. Free, of Savannah, GA, died April 19, 2009 in an assisted living home in Carson, CA. John was born March 13, 1917 in Baltimore, MD, and moved to Glen Cove in 1963. He was 92.

John was the business manager and traveling secretary for the New York Jets Football Team from 1963 to 1980. He joined them when they were originally the New York Titans. He was the first employee hired by coach Weeb Ewbank for the newly formed New York Jets and quickly became Weeb's right-hand man. During the playing season, John managed the overall operations of Shea Stadium. He was also responsible for the charter travel, hotel and meal arrangements for the owners and players for all of his 17 years with the Jets. After their Super Bowl III victory in 1969, he was awarded a Super Bowl ring and was presented a key to New York City by Mayor Lindsay.

In 1947 John was awarded the WWII Victory medal for his military service.

In 1981 he and his wife, Ruth, moved to Savannah, GA, where he indulged in his second favorite sport, golf. He was predeceased by Ruth in 1990 after 50 years of marriage.

John Free will be remembered for his dedication to the NY Jets association, his gift of storytelling and his enthusiasm for life.

Mr. Free is survived by his wife, Miriam Stevens, of Savannah, GA; her five children and seven grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Mary Brandt of Tallahassee, FL, her 10 children and many grandchildren.

John leaves behind his cherished friends, Howard and Linda Goldberg of Torrance, CA.

Services will be held Friday, May 1 at Fox & Weeks Funeral Home, 7200 Hodgson Memorial Dr., Savannah, GA, (912-352-7200). A funeral Mass will be said on Saturday, May 2 at 1 p.m. at St. James Catholic Church, 8412 Whitfield Ave., Savannah, GA 31406 (912-355-1523). Dorothy A. Lynch, of Glen Cove, died on April 21, 2009. Aunt of John (Ellen) and Gerard (Ruth) Lynch. Great-aunt of Casey, Dan, Cassie, Halley, Eric, Margaret and Colleen. Doxey Jr., of Glen Cove, died suddenly on April 22, 2009 at age 42. Son of Elizabeth (nee LaCorte) and the late Louis P. Sr. Father of Katelyn Rose. Brother of Pamela (the late Stewart), Tina (Walter) and Bridget (Frank). Uncle of Brittany and Frank. Nephew of Anthony LaCorte, Josephine Hughes and Doris V. Doxey. Also survived by great-aunts, Rose Medagno and Julia Pallone. He will be sorely missed by his beloved Kay. Visiting at the Funeral Home of Dodge-Thomas, Glen Cove. Mass at St. Patrick RC Church. Interment private.

Eugene Jerwick, 82, of Sea Cliff, died on April 22, 2009 in the home of his son, John, in Hagerstown, MD. Born March 4, 1927 in Sosnowiec, Poland, he was the son of the late Julian Jedrzejkiewicz and Irene Czerwinska.

Mr. Jerwick received his master of science degree in electrical engineering from Silesian University of Technology in Gliwice, Poland. He and his late wife, Vera (Ivancevic) Jerwick, were married in 1961 in Trieste, Italy. After leaving Poland, Mr. Jerwick settled in Sea Cliff where he lived for the past 48 years. Mrs. Jerwick died Nov. 2, 1994. Mr. Jerwick was a member of New York Professional Engineers and enjoyed traveling and playing bridge.

He is survived by one son, John (husband of Patricia Nolan) Jerwick of Hagerstown, MD; four grandchildren, Jason Jerwick, Jonelle Jerwick, Mikaela Jerwick and Jillian Jerwick, all of Hagerstown; and one brother, Marek Jedrzejkiewicz of Larki Letnisko, Poland.

A memorial Mass was held in St. Andrew Catholic Church, Waynesboro, with the Rev. Dennis G. Dalessandro officiating. Interment will be at a later date in Westbury. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Washington County, 747 Northern Ave., Hagerstown, MD 21742. Arrangements are by Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, Waynesboro.

Edward R. Barclay, of Sea Cliff, died on April 22, 2009. A veteran of WWII, he was a member of Glenwood American Legion Post 336. Husband of Josephine M. (nee Berlangero). Father of Kathleen Hesse (Peter), Robert (Maureen), Glenn (Nancy), William (Lynn), Patricia, William Berlangero (Nancy), Daniel Berlangero and James Berlangero. Grandfather of 14 and great-grandfather of 11. Brother of William R. and the late Charles. Arrangements were made by the Whitting Funeral Home, Glen Head. Nolan, of Glen Cove, died on April 28, 2009. Wife of the late Thomas W. Mother of Thomas (Helen), Kevin (Margaret) and Patricia (Frank) McPike. Grandmother of seven. Great-grandmother of eight. Sister of John O'Keefe, Frances Dervin and the late Dennis, Rev. Thomas and Bishop Joseph O'Keefe. The family will receive friends Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the McLaughlin Kramer Megiel Funeral Home, 220 Glen St., Glen Cove. Funeral Mass at the Church of St. Patrick Friday at 10:15 a.m. Interment Holy Rood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations in her name may be made to St. Patrick's Church, Glen Cove.
