Dr. Carol Weiss-Horvath, 49, died March 29, 2009 after suffering a cardiac arrest.

Carol was a life long resident of Glen Cove, where she practiced general dentistry out of an office attached to her family's home. Known for her outgoing demeanor and devotion to her patients, Carol was loved by many in and outside of the Glen Cove community.

She held a degree in nursing from Adelphi University and worked as a labor and delivery nurse for seven years before attending New York University's College of Dentistry where she graduated in 1990.

Carol also had a love of animals, taking in stray cats and feeding raccoons in her backyard.

Carol was a member of the American Dental Association and American Dental Society, as well as the Nassau County Dental Society. She was also a volunteer for the Glen Cove Emergency Medical Service Corps.

Carol is survived by her mother Eunice; husband Chris; daughter Lana; brothers, Jonathan and Richie; and sister Beth. She was predeceased by her father, Dr. Joseph Weiss.

Angelina Hagemann Smith, of Albertson, died on March 30, 2009 at age 72. Wife of Harry E. Mother of William (Vicki), Kevin (Patti), Michael (Gladys) and Kenneth (Dawn) Hagemann. Clements, of Glen Cove, died on March 31, 2009 at age 83. Wife of the late James W. Mother of James (Trisha), Bill (Florence), Carole Mayer (Harold) and John. Grandmother of eight. Charles J. Darazsdi, 97, of Schoharie, NY, died on April 12, 2009 at his residence after a brief illness. He was born in Glen Cove on Nov. 16, 1911, son of Stephen and Rose (Sommer) Darazsdi. He attended Glen Cove High School and served with the United States Army from Feb. 19, 1941 until his discharge on Oct. 7, 1945. He served all through WWII as a staff sergeant with the Second Division, 324th Medical Battalion. He performed various duties to assist technicians in medical department activities. He saw action in Ardennes, Central Europe, Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland. He received the American Defense Service Medal, European African Middle Eastern Service Medal and Good Conduct Medal.

Charles was a member of the Painters Union for over 75 years and worked mainly in the down-state area. He married Catherine (Albert) on Nov. 21, 1959 and eventually retired to Upstate in the Carlisle area and later relocated to Schoharie. He loved his home and being a 'country boy'. He was a long time member of the Elks Club and held a charter membership with the Esperance Elks Lodge #2507.

Charlie suffered from heart failure in recent years. Following a heart attack in December 2008, he had a gradual decline. He will be remembered by all who met him as a gentleman who had a keen mind and a ready wit always.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Helen and Stephen Darasdi; his wife Catherine; his sisters Mary Darasdi and Helen Chapman; and his brother Peter Darasdi. He is survived by his cousin Elizabeth Wilken of Bayville; a niece, Barbara Romano Crawford of Mercer Island, WA; four grand-nieces of Washington and Ohio; and five great-nieces and nephews.

An Elks service will begin at 11 a.m. on May 4 at the Langan Funeral Home, 327 Main St., Schoharie (518-295-8108), followed by a prayer service with Sr. Joan Curley officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow in the Lutheran Cemetery, Schoharie. Captain Vasilios ("Bill" S. ) Makrinos, of Glen Cove, died on April 11, 2009 at age 87. Husband of Marianthe. Father of Crystal Vazanellis and her husband Theo. Service at the Greek Orthodox Cathedral of St. Paul, Hempstead. Interment Nassau Knolls Cemetery. Constantina "Angelina" Izzo, of Glen Cove, died on Easter Sunday at age 102. Wife of the late Angelo. Mother of Immacolota Telese (Mario), Sabatino (Marjorie), Louis (Gloria), Joseph and the late Carmen (Colleen). Sister of Maria Grella. Grandmother of 14. Great-grandmother of 20. Visiting at the Funeral Home of Dodge-Thomas, Glen Cove. Mass at the Church of St. Rocco Thursday at 9:30 a.m. Interment Holy Rood Cemetery.
