Not every school district would see students going out of their way to support their teachers and school staff. Both board of education articles in this issue involve students attending public meetings in defense of teachers and staff who could either be laid off or terminated. In Glen Cove, the case is related to budget strains that are being experienced nationally. At North Shore, the case seems to be on a more individual level that involves commonly criticized, possibly inadequate school employee review policies.
In both instances, droves of students have come out in support of these school employees. This is notable in itself and must say something of the individuals' performances. These are times when it can't be enviable to be a superintendent or board of ed. Hopefully, they have the information they need and the means to do the best thing for their schools.
