North Shore High School's golf team, last year's runner-up at the Nassau County Championships, spent the first two weeks of this season tuning up at the Glen Cove Driving Range. With 12 inches of snow on the ground, the team said there were only 20 lunatics at the driving range on that first day of practice; 18 North Shore High School students, Coach Richter, and the driving range attendant. When the team arrived at the range that day, the attendant asked the Vikings to try to keep the balls close to the only four patches of grass on the range instead of in the snow. When the team left the range that day, after hitting about 500 balls, not a single ball was on one of those green patches. A good sign for the season to come, they said. The members of the 2009 North Shore Golf Team will include Eric Michalak, John Pirozzi, Peter Filippi, Brandon Robilatti, Matt Girshick, Russell Variale,Vin Curcio, Tom Kim, Alex Recine and Jeff Bochert.

The Women's Spring Track and Field Season appears to be another fine one for the North Shore athletes. Every year the team is in contention for a county championship and this season should be no different. Leading the way is the dynamic duo of junior Brianna Welch and freshman Samantha Nadel. They will both lead the charge in all the races ranging from the 800m-3000m. Other standouts include returning All-county members junior Charlotte Manogue in the steeple chase and distance races, Christina Convey in the 400 hurdles, sophomores Emily Osman in the 400 hurdles, Danielle Muoio in the steeple chase, freshman Brianna Nerud in the 3000m and eighth-graders Elizabeth Caldwell in the 3000m and Gabriella Vezza in the 3000m.

Besides the above-mentioned athletes, several others look to make a fine contribution as well, there are: in the sprints, seniors Whitley Miller and Nora Gaughn; in the field events, Sara McNulty, high jump and Erin Lepanto, long jump and triple jump; in the distance races, senior Marisa Dussel and sophomore Marielle Genovese.

The team is filled with depth and talent and looks to make a serious run at another county title. Logo
