There will be an interesting partnership of two major Long Island artistic forces when the Long Island Music Hall of Fame (LIMHOF) and the Long Island Film Festival (LIFF) join up for a "Music in Film" panel discussion. This event will be part of the 25th Annual Long Island Film Festival.
"It's the beginning of a beautiful friendship," said LIFF Executive Director Francis J. Leik. "We are thrilled that the Hall of Fame will be lending their musical talents and expertise to celebrate our festival's 25th Anniversary wrap-up in Glen Cove next month by joining our panel discussions and award ceremony."
The LIFF will present its "Best of the LIFF" as part of the festival's novel East Coast tour when it arrives in the City of Glen Cove for a mix of feature films, short subjects and the much-anticipated exclusive "Music in Film" panel entitled "Creating a Mood - Advancing the Story."
This panel will be moderated by renowned Long Island radio personality and LIMHOF board member, Denis McNamara. Mr. McNamara is best known for his long-time association with WLIR and pioneered the air-play of first-wave alternative music during the 1980s.
Distinguished LIMHOF board member Beth Krakower is to sit in on the panel as well. All guest panelists will offer their experience and insights into the art and business of writing and performing songs and scores for films.
"Any filmmaker who is serious about his or her craft won't want to miss the opportunity to hear what these collaborative music artists have to share," said Mr. Leik. "They can offer invaluable insight into a 'major key' part of filmmaking and the lasting impression received from this contribution."
Film screenings and the panel discussions will take place at Perspective Studios in Glen Cove from Feb. 25 - 27. The studio is located at the Pistilli Metro Center at 70 Glen Street in Glen Cove. Screenings start at 4 p.m.
In addition, the members of the panel will judge several songs from three of the LIFF programmed feature entries. Panelists will evaluate the songs based on several criteria, one of which is how well they convey the theme of "Setting the Mood - Advancing the Story" for their respective films.
