Selmajean Zurer Schneider

Selmajean Zurer Schneider, age 90, died peacefully on Dec. 26, 2008 in Washington DC. She was the beloved wife of the late Raymond Robert Zurer of Sea Cliff and subsequently the late Joseph Schneider of Sun City, AZ. She is survived by her sister Dorothy Farkas (Andrew) of Wallingford, CT, and her brother Arthur Wallace (Jewell) of Upland, CA; five children, James Zurer (Diana) of Chevy Chase, MD, Barbara Zurer Pearson (Wilbur) of Amherst, MA, Burt Zurer (Pamela) of Silver Spring, MD, Carol Kline (Larry) of Ojai, CA, and Holly Zurer (Charlie) of Kittery, ME; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

She was born in the Bronx and graduated from New York University. After her marriage, she lived in Sea Cliff for almost 60 years, wintering in Sun City, AZ, in her later years. She was trained as a teacher and helped manage Long Island Paint and Chemical Company with her husband Raymond. She was active in local and school politics and in 1972 was a delegate for George McGovern. She and her husband were instrumental in the founding of North Country Reform Temple of Glen Cove. She especially enjoyed traveling, folk-dancing, bridge, and New York Times crosswords. Throughout her life, she followed the New Yorker magazine, generally a couple of weeks to several months behind.

Ester R. Carbuto

Ester R. Carbuto passed away on Dec. 26, 2008 at age 88. She was a lifelong resident of Glen Cove. Wife of the late Tony and beloved mother of Tippie (Jessie), Angela (Marianne) and Cindy Geist (Chuck). Grandmother of Andrew, Christopher (Jennifer), Allison, Daniel; great-grandmother of Josh and Jake. Sister-in-law to Anne and Anna Carbuto. Loving aunt to many nieces and nephews. Beloved companion of her cat "Sassy."

Ester worked for many years for the Glen Cove School District at the Connolly School cafeteria. She was a devoted member of the Church of St. Rocco Rosary Society, Compassionate Care, Eucharistic Minister, Feast Committee and First Fridays.

Ester's life touched and enriched so many. Her compassionate nature and joyful spirit were an inspiration to all. She will be deeply missed.

Arrangements were made by the Bianconi Funeral Home, Glen Cove. Interment at St. Patrick's Cemetery, Brookville.

Contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Pl., Memphis, TN 38105. Angelica "Ann" Sarandis, of Glen Head, died on Jan. 17, 2009 at age 81. Wife of the late John. Mother of Nicholas (Susan). Sister of the late Virginia Bellas. Grandmother of twins, Christopher and Nicole. Visiting at the Funeral Home of Dodge-Thomas, Glen Cove. Service at the Greek Orthodox Cathedral of St. Paul. Interment East Hillside Cemetery. Mary G. Petrucci (Galluccio), of Glen Cove, died on Jan. 18, 2009. Wife of the late Louis. Mother of Joseph. She was predeceased by three brothers, Angelo (Marion), Dominick (Nancy) and Anthony Galluccio. She is survived by one brother Frank (Peggy) and two sisters-in-law, Mary Petrucci and Frances McIntosh. Also survived by many nieces and nephews, Kathy Brigton, Ellen Galluccio, Jill McIntosh, Joseph, Francis, Michael, Gregory, Douglas and David Gallucio. She was a member of the St. Rocco Rosary Society. Reposed at the Marcus L. Bianconi Funeral Home, Glen Cove. Mass of Christian Burial at the Church of St. Rocco on Jan. 22 at 9:30 a.m. Interment Holy Rood Cemetery. Logo
