Swim Across America (SAA) invites swimmers of all ages and levels of expertise to participate in the Sound to the Cove Swim this Saturday, Aug. 16. Join hundreds of motivated Long Islanders in a choice of a 1-mile, 5K, or extreme 10K swim across Long Island Sound. Whether you are a recreational, competitive or master swimmer, you can help raise awareness in the battle against cancer.

Volunteers are also needed to man kayaks (experienced kayakers only) and to help staff the event, which has grown tremendously over the last seven years.

Registration begins at 6 a.m. (5 a.m. for 10K swimmers). Mayor Ralph V. Suozzi and the City of Glen Cove is proud to once again host this annual event as swimmers return to the waters along the shoreline of one of the community's most picturesque natural treasures, Morgan Memorial Park. Following the main event, swimmers and friends will enjoy a brunch, an awards ceremony, and check presentations to beneficiaries.

The City of Glen Cove invites volunteers to assist in registration, brunch, and logistical support on boats, kayaks or at the finish line as well as coming to the beach to cheer on the swimmers.

For more information on how to participate, visit www.swimacrossamerica.org and follow the links for "Sound to the Cove" event or call Mayor Suozzi's office at 676-2004.
