(Ed. Note: The following letter was sent to Mayor Ralph Suozzi and is printed here at the author's request.)
On March 22, the Saturday before Easter, I noticed the water running into the bathtub was an orange/brown color. I called the emergency number for the Department of Public Works and was pleasantly surprised when a very polite woman answered the phone, and after taking pertinent information advised me she would have someone contact me as soon as possible. This all took place at approximately 10:18 a.m.
Within 30 minutes my doorbell rang, and much to my surprise there stood Joe Herman from the water department. He checked out the problem and assured me that they would have the problem fixed within the next few hours as they would have to drain the pipes. Inasmuch as I had a meeting that morning I was not at home when Mike Calangelo, a supervisor with the water department, also visited the house and assured my husband they had everything under control.
Both Joe and Mike gave my husband phone numbers where he could contact them if there were any further problems. Both of these gentlemen were kind, patient and considerate while maintaining a high level of skill, competence and the character expected of members of highly trained professionals.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank both Joe and Mike as they are a credit to the City of Glen Cove.
