The Glen Cove Big Red girls track team has been named Division Champions following its meet on Monday at Floral Park. The girls brought home the gold by defeating all six teams against which they competed. They took the lead after the first event, finishing first, third and fourth in the 400-meter hurdles. After that, the girls never looked back and dominated the entire meet. This marks the first time in more than 30 years that the Big Red has won the championship.
Fourteen girls won 19 medals. Danielle Silas won two gold medals and Casey Lynch won one gold medal. Danielle Silas, Loreley Gomez, Alisa Flores and Marianna Graziosi each won one silver medal. Bronze medals winners include Loreley Gomez and Antonella Coscarelli, who won two medals each, and Marianna Graziosi, Briana Pascarelli, Sabrina Minopoli, Alyssa Cuyjet, Nicole Cunniff, Candra McCoy, Anita Chang and Danielle Carlson, who each won one medal.
Danielle Silas led the team in scoring with 28 points, Alisa Flores was second with 18 points, Loreley Gomez was third with 15 points and Marianna Graziosi scored 14 points. Alyssa Allen, Daniella Grella, Catherine Perez and Melody Howard scored points for the team, despite not winning any medals.
Three school records were broken at this meet. Most team members achieved personal bests for the biggest day of the season. Coach Bullis congratulated the team and stated the win shows that "hard work and determination will always let you reach your goals."
