A busy start to the Big Red girls lacrosse team season has brought the team early success. The girls have played four games and have a record of 3 wins and 1 tie. The victories come over Great Neck North 11 - 7, Clarke 10 - 2, Wheatley 15 - 7 and the tie was with Elmont 10 - 10. The record is even more remarkable considering the girls played without several starters due to injuries and other commitments. They are playing aggressively and with patience in the attack and are waiting for a good shot rather than taking one from a low percentage angle.
Top goal scorers are: Kelsea Valance 20 goals, Robin Godfrey 6, Sam Basile 5, Yvonne Mennuti 5, Brittany Baker 5, Meri Baade 1, Sam Simon 1, Chelsee Marks 1. The girls could not have scored without the strong clutch defensive playing from Sofia Christopoulos, Megan Gardvits, Jessica Totino, Lauren Budzinski, Heather Artinian, Jessica Andreotti and Krista Bruschini
Kelse Giambruno stepped into goal for the last two games and amassed 22 saves, while Renee Orshan had 11 for the first two games.
The Glen Cove boy's varsity lacrosse team once again found itself in an offensive shootout with the Terriers of St. Francis Prep. The game will be a memorable one for the Big Red's Eric Tripp. The junior attackman's second goal of the game put the Big Red out in front 9-8, and broke the Glen Cove scoring record! The previous record of 142 points was set by Ralph Corigliano in 1992. Eric would later add to the new record by recording his fifth assist of the game and his 144th of his career.
Also scoring for the Big Red were Doug Tripp with 4 goals and 2 assists, Kevin Paolillo with 3 goals, Tyler Ravener and Ryan Zupa each with one goal. Michael Pappachristou, Kevin Gardrvits and Zach Rubin each had one assist.
The Big Red's next home game is on Friday when they take on the Mustangs of Mineola.
