The Glen Cove Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) accepted the award for Best CERT Team of 2007 at the Annual Volunteer Recognition Dinner held at the Crest Hollow Country Club on March 11. The Glen Cove team was singled out from among 19 Nassau County CERT teams based on their members' response to activations and other events during the year. The awards dinner is held annually to thank the more than 700 volunteers in Nassau County that participate in the Community Emergency Response Teams and the Medical Reserve Corps (MRC) when activated to assist first responders in times of crisis. Awards honor those members of MRC and CERT who have given outstanding service to the community or to their organization during the year.
One of the notable activations that occurred in the past year was the water emergency in the City of Glen Cove in May of 2007, to which not only the Glen Cove CERT responded to distribute bottled water and hand deliver fliers through the community, but was assisted by 18 other Nassau County CERT teams.
