Nassau County Executive Thomas R. Suozzi and Glen Cove Mayor Ralph V. Suozzi have announced a public meeting for community input and involvement in the Cedar Swamp Road Corridor Project. The meeting will be held on Thursday, March 6 in the community room of St. Rocco's Church, 8 Third Street at 6:30 p.m. Light refreshments will be served.

The area delineated as the Cedar Swamp Road corridor is pictured.

The project will identify a vision for the corridor and determine specific improvements that can be undertaken by the county and city to improve economic vitality, streetscape appearance and transportation systems along the corridor.

"I am delighted to see a renewed interest in this important passageway," said County Executive and former Mayor of Glen Cove T. Suozzi. "We explored a few possibilities for development of the Cedar Swamp Road corridor in the past, but lacked necessary funding. Now that we've been able to allocate funds toward the improvement of this area, we are excited for the new businesses that will come to Nassau County and look forward to working with the Glen Cove community."

Mayor Suozzi said, "With the interest and involvement of the county, I believe we will be able to make significant improvements to the streetscape including signage, landscaping and sidewalk treatments. We also think that renewed interest in our city and efforts to improve the waterfront will make the natural gateway into the city more appealing for businesses, residents and visitors, and increase the economic vitality of our downtown."

Citizens and business owners who live and work in or near the corridor are specifically invited to attend the meeting. The focus will be on identifying the strengths and opportunities in developing the corridor, as well as any obstacles toward improving its overall appearance and vitality. In addition to exploring the existing conditions and potential for change along Cedar Swamp Road, the meeting will include a presentation on the scope of the project and solicit public comments and ideas for future improvements. The presentation will include a summary of the Existing Conditions Report, which is available in its entirety on the project website at www.glencove-cedarswamproad.com.

Future public meetings are scheduled for late June and September, with further details to be announced.
