Mary Roller Brosnan, 55, died Jan. 19, 2008 in North Shore Community Hospital at Glen Cove after a brief illness. One of 12 children, she was born in Brooklyn and lived in various places before moving to Glen Cove permanently in 1978. After being disabled in a car accident in the mid '90s, she directed her energies toward writing poetry, short stories and mystery novels, some of which were published. With an unquenchable thirst for knowledge and reading, she was rarely found without a book nearby. She is survived by her sisters Anita Christianson, Carol Rosa, Lorraine Soteropoulos, Gail and Loretta Roller and her brother Robert Roller. She is also survived by her longtime love Michael Martino and friends Yvonne and Todd Walas of Glen Head. She was buried in Rosehill Cemetery in Linden, NJ on Jan. 26, 2008. Mary Margaret Quinn, of Syosset, died on Jan. 31, 2008. Mother of Dr. Mary Rose Paster, a psychologist in Glen Cove and a resident of Locust Valley. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Arrangements were made by the Whitting Funeral Home, Glen Head. Funeral Mass at St. Pius Church, Oyster Bay Cove. Interment St. Charles Cemetery, Pinelawn. Salvatore N. "Sal" Imperato, 73, passed away on Feb. 1, 2008 at his home in Timber Pines, Spring Hill, FL. He came to Florida 10 years ago from Glen Cove. He was born in Manhattan. "Sal" is survived by his wife of 49 years, Philippa Rose (Pulafico), formerly of Barre, MA; a son Salvatore III (Sherri) of Barrre; and a daughter Pamela of Missouri Valley, IA; two stepchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

He was a US Army veteran, serving in the Korean War. For 19 years he was employed at Consumers Union in Mount Vernon, NY, as a machinist and later retired from the US Post Office in Glen Cove after 27 years of service. A skilled photographer, an avid hunter, arborist and craftsman, his hobbies included bocce, gardening, world traveling and shopping. He was also a member of the Timber Pines Garden and Global Travel clubs, Knights of Columbus, Post 1828, the National Association of Letter Carriers and the National Association of Federal Employees.

Arrangements were made by the Brewer Funeral Home. Memorial Mass was held Feb. 11 at St. Thomas-a-Becket Church, S. Barre. Burial St. Joseph's Cemetery. Donations may be made to the Glen Cove Fire Dept., Glen Cove, NY.

Loretta VanHolt, of Port Washington, died on Feb. 3, 2008 at the age of 93. Wife of the late Walter F. VonHolt. Mother of Walter F. VonHolt, Jr. and mother-in-law of Patricia VonHolt. Grandmother of Walter F. VonHolt, III. Arrangements were made by the Whitting Funeral Home, Glen Head. Funeral service at the funeral home. Interment Nassau Knolls Cemetery, Port Washington. Eleanore Darling (Mrs. William) Everdell, of Old Brookville, and Edgartown, MA on Feb. 8, 2008 at age 93 after a long illness. Former vice-president of the Garden Club of America, she was active in many local community groups. She is survived by her devoted husband, three sons: Coburn of San Francisco, Preston of Centreville, MD, and William R. of Brooklyn; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Arrangements made by Dodge-Thomas Funeral Home. Glen Cove. Mark Lynn Messer

Mark Lynn Messer, 48, died on Feb. 9, 2008 where he received excellent care by the staff of Walter Reed Convalescent Center and Hospice personnel in Glouscester, VA. He was born May 6, 1959 in Gary, IN, to Donna and Terry Messer who survive him. He grew up in Terre Haute, IN, and Glen Head. His occupation was an oil burner mechanic and plumber. Throughout his life he was personable, would talk to anyone and never met a stranger.

He is survived by his long-time companion Joy Jurkowski and their daughter Kaitlyn Marie of Hampton Bays. His son Sean Basdavanos; his brothers, Paul and John; his maternal grandmother Irene Peterson; aunts and uncles, Pat and Ron Peterson and Joyce and Gil Jones; and cousins, Cindy, Cathy and Ronda also survive.

Mark was cremated by the Virginia Cremation Society. A memorial service will be held in the spring at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Glen Head. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial donations be made to the Mark Messer Memorial Fund for Kaitlyn's Education, Chesapeake Bank, PO Box 1078, Mathews, VA 23109.

Ruth Hall Burgar, of Glen Head, died on Feb. 9, 2008. Wife of the late Anthony. Mother of Laurie Jane Kahan (Jason) and the late Barbra Ellen Frost. Grandmother of Katherine, Sarah, Allison and Aron. Mother-in-law of Peter Frost (Jenn). Arrangements were made by the Whitting Funeral Home, Glen Head. Funeral service at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Glen Head. Interment private. John Macon Eighmy, 63, of Windsor, CT, formerly of Glen Cove, husband of Catherine (Ferraro) Eighmy, died peacefully on Feb. 10, 2008 at Hartford Hospital. Born on Sept. 11, 1944 in New York, NY, he was the son of the late Lee Wells Eighmy Jr. and Ellie Ayres Burns Eighmy. John was a graduate of Lafayette College with the Class of 1966 and later received his MBA from Fordham University. He served our country with the U.S. Navy during Vietnam and subsequently went on to work for the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, retiring as Sr. Vice President in 1999.

John was a devoted family man. He loved to travel, spend time gardening and had a great sense of humor. His family always came first; he will be greatly missed by all, including his dog, Pearl.

Besides his wife Catherine, of 36 years, he leaves two sons, Brian Eighmy and his wife Sherri of Windsor and John M. "Jack" Eighmy Jr. of Manchester; a brother, Lee Wells "Trey" Eighmy III and his wife Charron Fullerton of Greentown, PA; a granddaughter, Claire Rose Eighmy and his mother-in-law, Katherine Gloster of Windsor. He was predeceased by a granddaughter, Lauren Eighmy.

Evelyn Keller, of Glen Head, died on Feb. 10, 2008. Wife of the late William Richardson and Bernard Keller. Mother of Carolyn Ambrosait, Lynn Richardson and Judith Richardson. Grandmother of William Gustafson, Eric Gustafson, Christine Sleiman, Alex Lever, Partricia Lever, Anthony Atilio and Michael Atilio; and great-grandmother of Danielle and Jane Sleiman, Erica and Finn Gustafson, Nicholas Atilio and Andrew and Alexis Lever.
