Jim Dahl, commodore of the Glen Cove Yacht Club, has announced the opening of membership for the club's 2008 season. The Yacht Club, located at the foot of McLoughlin Street, next to Morgan Park, has waterfront facilities for all boating needs. From motorboaters to motor sailors, kayakers and small boat sailors, there is a place for everyone at this terrific resource for City of Glen Cove residents. Showers, restrooms, the waterfront docks and launching areas are for members only, but dues are affordable.
A bit of spring fever has infected the club and inspired members to plan an open house for all prospective members and interested residents. Motorboat, sailboat, canoe and kayak memberships are offered to both residents and non-residents. Modest fees go to support the docks, launch services and clubhouse upkeep, none of which is paid by the city.
Hot drinks and goodies from Landing Bakery will be provided at the open house on Saturday February 2, from 10 am to 2 pm. Slide presentations and videos on club trips and boat races will be displayed, and discussions with club members will provide information for interested prospective members. The Sea Scouts will be on hand to answer questions and to talk about their new sailboat.
Glen Cove Yacht Club is an incorporated non-profit membership club, which also hosts the Sea Scouts and the Coast Guard Auxiliary of Glen Cove at the clubhouse. For more information, call 676-9450 or visit www.GlenCoveYachtClub.org.
