State Assemblyman Charles D. Lavine (D-13AD) announced from Albany that the City of Glen Cove has been allocated $695,000 in grant money through Restore New York to be used toward the redevelopment of the Glen Cove Ferry Terminal. The ferry operation is an integral component in the revitalization of the Glen Cove waterfront.

Assemblyman Lavine is pictured with New York State Lieutenant Governor David Paterson as he announces $100 million in statewide grants through Restore NY.

Assemblyman Lavine said, "This grant is a big step in the right direction. Redeveloping Glen Cove's waterfront is vital to our economic growth and stability." Assemblyman Lavine stated that he wished to commend the City of Glen Cove for its excellent preparation of the grant request, as these grants are highly competitive and applications numerous. Only 64 projects statewide received funding, $100 million in total, with just 20 projects in downstate New York. The Glen Cove CDA wrote and submitted the grant application in early fall of 2007.

Glen Cove Mayor Ralph V. Suozzi said he was pleased with the announcement, which he received from Assemblyman Lavine, state Senator Carl L. Marcellino and Andrea LoNiess, regional director of Restore New York, although, he quipped, "It would have been nice if the three calls had represented $695,000 each." The mayor stated that working on local, county, state and federal levels serves to "keep the project in the forefront of everyone's mind and brings us closer to our objective of funding the ferry project."

The Restore New York Communities Initiative is a program of the Empire State Development Project.
