The Church of St. Rocco recently concluded its 70th anniversary celebration of the parish, formed in 1937. Various religious, cultural and social events were held throughout the year to mark this happy occasion. One very important event was the creation of the parish photo directory for which approximately 275 families participated. It is being prepared by Olin Mills and every family that participated will receive an album as a gift.

Another event was the parish dinner dance. About 280 people attended the dinner on Friday, Oct. 15 held in the newly restored parish center.

The most important event was held the weekend of Dec. 8 and 9 when Auxiliary Bishop Paul Walsh of the Diocese of Rockville Centre visited St. Rocco's. He spent the weekend with parishioners, members of various associations and committees, and the parish staff. The bishop was very pleased to hear all the things accomplished through the good will and generosity of the parishioners, volunteers and benefactors of the parish.

Bishop Walsh was the main celebrant for the 5 p.m. Mass on Dec. 8 and the 10:15 a.m. Mass on Dec. 9. The church was filled to capacity and the parish's Italian/English and Children's choir sang beautiful hymns and songs in English, Italian and Latin. The celebration concluded with a reception in the parish hall after Sunday Mass.

Father Aaron said, "May God bless all the parishioners and friends both living and deceased who through their tireless efforts, dedication, and generosity have made the parish what it is today, and may God bless everyone."
