Kim Kessel of Glen Cove High School has signed a letter of intent to play Division II ball at C.W. Post.

The 2007-2008 Glen Cove wrestling team started out the season in strong fashion. This year's team has a nice mix of experienced veterans and hardworking newcomers. The freshman group is moving up from the middle school hungry for action. Vinny DiPaola Steven Suarez, Julio Bonilla, Luigi Coscarelli and Aaron Sylver show the experience of a solid middle school program led by Coach Rubin. The JV squad started the season matching up with Syosset and Jericho. Freshmen Alexey Bogdanich, Frankie Gaudio and Kevin Nicholas earned their first wins of the season as did first year newcomer Hardeep Singh. Marvin Flores also saw some early season action.

The returning varsity had a successful week as well. North Shore and Garden City visited Glen Cove to get the season rolling. Sophomores Danny Belfiore and Nate Booth had convincing victories. Senior Tom Marshall and junior Harrison Balisky also earned their first victories. Senior Scott Michaleas and sophomore Chris Martinez saw their first action of the season. Senior captains Ryan Pina, Steven Paez, Mike Marino and Nick Martino got their seasons rolling with victories. Juniors Pat Cook and Kevin Gardrvits looked sharp after a spring and summer of hard work with Coach Doerr. Sophomores Hector Paez, Alex (Sasha) Bogdanich, Lewis Linares and Mike Ianetta, as well as freshman Rahul Nath, started the season off with victories.

On Saturday the varsity took the trip up to Mamaroneck for the annual Tiger Tournament. The Glen Cove squad had a strong day placing third out of 14 competing teams. Freshmen Rahul Nath and Kevin Nicholas scored some much needed points for the Big Red. Harrison Balisky and Ryan Pina also wrestled tough for Glen Cove. Glen Cove had an outstanding quarterfinal round, sending ten wrestlers to the semifinals. Mike Ianetta upset the No. 1 seed to reach the semis. Iannetta and Mike Marino had solid days, finishing fourth. Seniors Steven Paez and Eddie Franco and juniors Kevin Gardrvits and Pat Cook had great days wrestling their way to third place. Sophomore Hector Paez also took third. Sophomore Lewis Linares wrestled his way to the finals for the first time with a big pin in the semis. Lewis scored huge points for the Big Red, taking second place honors.

Sophomore Alex Bogdanich and senior Nick Martino wrestled their way to the Mamaroneck finals for the second straight year. Last year they had to settle for second place; this year they would not be denied. Both wrestlers picked up second period pins to earn the championship for their weight class.

With early success and a very strong work ethic, the season looks bright for the Big Red under the coaching of Coach Kocienda and Coach Kopecky.
