The Glen Cove High School girls basketball program is moving in a positive direction, having set a goal to improving skills a little bit every day. The players are focusing on the fundamentals from the offensive and defensive side of the ball. The teams have been working extremely hard in practice and Coach Gus Sirakis said he sees progress already. "Through the process, our girls are building trust, teamwork and having fun along the way," the coach said. "We are looking forward to a successful season. Please come support us at our games." Members of the varsity team are Heather Artinian, Meredith Baade, Brittany Baker, Anne Brady, Sonia Canales, Dashina Cofield, Jaclyn Franklin, Megan Gardrvits, Nicole Maher, Catherine Perez and Kelsea Valance. Members of the junior varsity team, under the direction of Coach Amanda Sullivan, are Antonella Coscarelli, Alyssa Cuyjet, Victoria Durso, Elisabeth Flores, Hailey Langone, Angelica Leto, Candra McCoy, Briana Pascarelli, Stephanie Pina and Amelia Weck.
The JV boys basketball team welcomed the JV Malverne Mules into the Big Red arena this past Saturday. The Big Red dominated the entire scrimmage with outstanding offensive execution and defensive intensity. Malverne was unable to cope with the constant offensive movement and the defensive strategies put in place by the Big Red. Coach Lemanczyk said he looks forward to the rest of the season, as the group is made up of hard-working and consistently-improving young men.
