Joan was born July 31, 1914 in London, England. She passed away on Nov. 16, 2007. She was married to Thomas McKenzie and emigrated to the United States in 1948. She is survived by her daughter, Nina McKenzie Marino, her son-in-law, John, and two grandchildren, Haig and Victoria. She recently became a great-grandmother with the arrival of Thorsten Marino. Joan was a longtime resident of Glen Cove where she worked in the business office of the Glen Cove School District. She and Tom retired to Holiday, Florida in 1972.

Charles Everett Daniel Hicks, 86, of Glen Cove, passed away on Nov. 19, 2007. Charles, known by most as "Ev," was born, raised and lived most of his life in Glen Cove. He was an honored veteran of the U.S. Army who dedicated his life to his family, his heritage, his community, helping others and technology. During his life Ev received multiple recognitions and citations for his commitment and generous support of local and national government agencies, several charities and organizations that he worked for, most notably Grumman for his work on the first Lunar Module for the Apollo Project. Ev is survived by his brothers and sisters: Adelaide, Fred, Robert, Hank, David, Thomas, Janet and Peter. Memorial service and funeral will be held on Nov. 29 at Dodge-Thomas Funeral Home, Glen Cove, with interment immediately following at Calverton National Cemetery.
Alice Minsky (nee Zabielski), longtime resident of Locust Valley, died peacefully on Nov. 22, 2007 at age 92. Wife of the late Edward F. Mother of Nancy Stepkowski (Eugene) and the late Edward J. Grandmother of Christine, Steven, Edward, and Susan. Great-grandmother of Nicole, Elizabeth, Chloe, and Grace. She will be missed. She was most proud of her years of war service at Grumman as "Rosie the Riveter."
