The Buddhist community and the people of Myanmar are standing not alone but with the spirit of a world watching. Their admirably peaceful and brave pursuit of a voice in their land has inspired not only communities of faith but a future of humanity that lies in our ability to embrace peace.
We are imploring the leaders, organizations and countries in the international arena to bring forth the full weight of their commitment and powers of influence to steer this unfolding history toward a peaceful resolution. We are imploring the leaders of Myanmar to act humanely toward their people, to permit the communications of their citizens, and to have the courage not to force the destruction of the voices whose ideas differ from their own. We are imploring the people of Myanmar and their religious communities to continue to express this to a planet of people. It is now a world of voices speaking in support of their quest for reformation toward an open society in Myanmar where dialogue and peaceful expression are encouraged, not exterminated.
We are adding our voice to the global collection with a great faith in their vision for their future with non-violent action, knowing it too requires courage but carries great power.
Finally, we commit our community not to quiet our voice of support until peace blankets the land of Myanmar.
