Barbara J. Giovinco (nee Breglio), of Glen Head, died on Aug. 27, 2007 at age 49. Wife of Dr. Paul D. Mother of Cristina and Jacqueline. Daughter of Nicholas and Josephine Breglio. John S. Sucharski, lifelong resident of Glen Cove, died on Aug. 30, 2007 at age 76. Husband of Carol A. Father of Marie and David of GCPD (Solange). Brother of Joseph. Grandfather of Paige, Tomas and Gavin. Son-in-law of Naomi Sukman. Visitation at the Funeral Home of Dodge-Thomas, Glen Cove. Prayers were held at the funeral home. Interment private. Elizabeth Mott Rosborg, lifetime resident of Bayville, died on Aug. 31, 2007 at age 75. She was a former Bayville Village Clerk-Treasurer. Wife of the late Harold J. Mother of Eric J. (Elizabeth), Robert (Linda) and the late Christopher W. Sister of the late William H Mott Jr. Grandmother of Mark, Erika, Matthew, Christopher and Stephanie. Al Baker died peacefully on Aug. 31, 2007 at the age of 76, after a long illness. A longtime resident of Glen Cove, Al was married to Mary (McLaughlin). Father of Susan (Michael) Cerulli, Mary (Rich) Calo, Evelyn Polvere, Elizabeth (Richard) Looney and James (Lisa). He was the cherished pop pop of 11 grandchildren: Katie, Megan and Erin Cerulli, RJ, Tom and Elizabeth Calo, Cecelia Polvere, Jessica, Isabelle, Abigail and Eleanor Baker.
Al graduated with a degree in electrical engineering from Manhattan College. He worked at LILCO for 34 years and for the last 20 years ran his own Engineering Consulting firm until his retirement at the age of 74. He was an IBEW instructor.
Al was a proud and active member of the Mike Moran Division 8 Ancient Order of Hibernians (AOH). Two of his most honored moments were being named the 2005 'Hibernian of the Year' and the Aide to the Grand Marshal in the 2006 Glen Cove St. Patrick's Day Parade. He was also proud to be part of the AOH's project to bring a Christmas Nativity to the Village Square for the last two years.
Much of Al's time was spent volunteering throughout the community. His most recent involvement was with hospice, Literacy Volunteers of America, Long Island AIDS Council and the North Shore Sheltering Program. Many will remember him as a long time CYO basketball coach. He was also was on the Zoning Board, Bicentennial Parade Committee, was a Little League coach and belonged to the Thomond Gate Irish Step Dancers. He also spent countless hours on many projects at St. Patrick's Church and School including: chairman of the Church Renovation Committee, revival of the church bells and clock tower, building and grounds, lector, RCIA, Eucharistic Minister for the homebound, Men's Club, St. Patrick's Country Fair, Parish Council and he organized Manresa Retreats. He was a mentor to many.
Along with his wife of almost 50 years, Al loved spending time with his family and friends. His door was always open. He will be greatly missed.
Funeral arrangements were made by McLaughlin Kramer Megiel Funeral Home, Glen Cove. Funeral Mass at the Church of St. Patrick. Interment Locust Valley Cemetery. Contributions may be made to Fisher House Foundation, 1401 Rockville Pike, Suite 600, Rockville, MD 20852, in memory of Alfred T. Baker. The Fisher House provides temporary lodging to military members and their families during hospitalizations.
