Two weeks ago, I responded to several personal attacks hurled against me by letter writers who take issue with my view that Ralph Suozzi may not have the requisite skills to finish the waterfront revitalization. I suggested that if it was the intent of the letter writers to keep the issue of the mayor's competence on the front burner, they could do so simply by continuing to assault me personally instead of pointing to any meaningful accomplishment by the mayor that would establish his credentials to get the job done.
Well, it appears that the issue of competence in public office is still on the front burner. This past week, several more personal attacks against me appeared in the paper. None pointed to any evidence that Mr. Suozzi will ever be able to complete any waterfront project.
I also noted two weeks ago that if the mayor couldn't manage something as basic as getting the garbage cleaned up in back of the movie theater, which happens to be right on Brewster Street, across from Dunkin' Donuts, it's very unlikely that he'll be able to take on the management of a major development project.
Guess what? The garbage is still there. And the waterfront revitalization is still on hold.
Glen Cove is in desperate need of good management. It's not about nice guys. It's about competence.
