Soccer season is quickly approaching and there are still some available openings to become a referee for the GCJSL club. Games are played at John Maccarone Stadium on weeknights as well as all day on Saturdays. Mandatory training sessions will be held before the season starts to help new referees with the rules and to allow the veterans to brush up on their skills. Uniforms and equipment will also be distributed at these sessions.

This is a great opportunity to share your knowledge of soccer and develop leadership skills as an official of the game. Applicants must be at least 13 years old to referee games in the club. This year's coordinators, Alice Sorenson and Dan Cavallo, are looking forward to another great season with great referees.

The Glen Cove Junior Soccer League Board of Directors established a risk management program several years ago to help foster safe experiences for the children of the club. The program is administered by the Eastern New York Youth Soccer Association in conjunction with the Long Island Junior Soccer League.

The goal of initiating risk management registration and background checks is solely for the protection of youth players against adults with a history of criminal activity that might otherwise place our children in jeopardy. The process applies to all GCJSL board members, travel team coaches, intramural coaches and assistant coaches, as well as trainers hired by the club. All volunteers over the age of 21 who work around the children are required to register. Upon completion of the application, satisfactory response and proof of acceptance, club members will be issued a stamped identification card that is valid for two years. Once again the online processing fee will be paid by the GCJSL, made possible by the generosity of its sponsors.
