The Sea Cliff Yacht Club invites the community to celebrate the 31st Annual Around Long Island Regatta with a house tour, nautical art show and poetry reading, and a free beach concert.
The Village of Sea Cliff is providing free shuttle bus service on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. to and from the Sea Cliff Yacht Club and the village parking lot and, to tour the six houses. The bus will also be bringing more than 500 participating sailors to the village.
On Saturday July 28, there will be the first ALIR House Tour by Sea and by Land. Some of the boats which finished the 31st Annual Around Long Island Regatta, such as the U.S. Navy 68 foot Zaraffa and the mega catamarans, can be viewed from the Sea Cliff Yacht Club launch. The tour includes a ride on the Sea Cliff launch around beautiful Hempstead Harbor to view local landmarks from the water. See Morgan Park, Sea Cliff Beach, Sands Point, Tappen Beach, and the beautiful seaside homes in Sea Cliff and Glen Cove. Tour six magnificent private homes in Sea Cliff, offered by Sherlock Homes Realty. The tour is from noon to 4 p.m. Tickets are $25 and can be purchased at any Sherlock Homes Realty office or at the Sea Cliff Yacht Club. The Sea Cliff Village bus will provide transportation to and from the Sea Cliff Yacht Club to the houses on the tour.
Don Mistretta Galleries of Locust Valley is holding the first ALIR Nautical Art Show featuring the works of 14 local artists including Susan Disanti, Frank Braynard, Ginger Hendler, Chan Bigelow, Laura Duggan, Joan Harrison, Michael Arch, Len Jacobs, Madeline Kle, Dimitry Schidlovsky, Betsy Cutler Schreiber, Doug Barnaby, Taryn Sison and Pat Handley. The public is invited to the free opening on Friday, July 27 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Sea Cliff Yacht Club. Everyone is invited to have dinner at the Sea Cliff Yacht Club and watch the sunset in the beautiful dining room overlooking Hempstead Harbor. Reservations can be made by calling 671 6374. On Saturday, the Art Show will be open from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., with a luncheon ($15) catered by Quartz Catering, featuring a Nautical Poetry Reading by Victoria Crosby. Saturday night, July 28 the ALIR is hosting a free beach concert on the Sea Cliff Yacht Club Beach featuring local bands including Pledge Drive and Streak. The concert is open to music enthusiast of all ages. Non-alcoholic drinks will be available and Quartz Caters is providing a barbecue on the beach. Bring a blanket and enjoy the music from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.
More than 70 boats are participating this year, including seven boats from the community. The Sea Cliff Yacht Club junior sailors have entered the first junior sailing team aboard Harvey Bass' boat. Harvey is taking six junior sailors and four adults for the three-day race. The race results will be announced at a party on Sunday, July 29 from 3 to 7 p.m. and features music by Tradewinds, a 10-piece band with its roots in the C.W. Post music department. Quartz Catering is providing an outstanding buffet. The cost is $20, which can be paid at the door.
