  • News: 3-D Model of Glen Cove Sighted in Stratford CT

During the public comments section of the Glen Cove City Council meeting of Tuesday, March 13, resident Janet Blatt addressed Councilman Mike Norman, quoting a local news article from February 2003 in which then-Mayor Mary Ann Holzkamp "praised" Don Monti and Michael Posillico, principals of Glen Isle Developers, for their "extensive work in remediation." • News: Glen Cove Passes Sex Offender Ordinance

Mayor Ralph V. Suozzi and the Glen Cove City Council unanimously passed Glen Cove's newly proposed ordinance regarding sex offenders, a joint effort begun by Zefy Christopoulos, taken by her to Deputy Chief William Whitton and Mayor Suozzi and now officially on the books. The ordinance, reported on extensively in the March 1 Glen Cove Record Pilot following a public hearing, very much mirrors the recently enacted county law, which, through a clerical error, excluded both Glen Cove and Long Beach. According to Mayor Suozzi, with the passing of the ordinance, Glen Cove will actually have stronger stipulations regarding sex offenders than Nassau County, as the county did not include daycare centers in their list of "vulnerable communities" and Glen Cove does. The ordinance stipulates, among other things, that no registered sex offender may live within 1,000 feet of a school or daycare center or 500 feet of the property line of a park. Extensive information on sex offenders may be found on the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services website, FULL STORY

  • Sports: North Shore High School Viking Sports

The North Shore men's lacrosse team, after narrowly missing the playoffs by one game in 2006, looks to make a return to them in 2007. The team is a true mix of the young and old. The returning juniors and seniors have been challenged by the coaching staff to use their experience to lead a group of underclassmen that have the potential to play a major role this season. The strongest unit for the Vikings this year may be the defense, which returns three starters: senior Sean Sears, junior Will Valasiadis, and junior All-Conference selection Matt Meade. Seniors Dan Grande, James Chow and Greg Ragusa, and junior Shaun Brala will also be large contributors on the defensive end. Both junior goalies, Glen Gerbush and Tucker Morgan, will see time in the cage. This year's midfield core will be led by returning starters senior Ronnie Irving and junior Taylor McGrath. Juniors Mike Lennon and Mike Treco will also look to be major contributors on the defensive midfield unit. Robbie Grabher and Keith Lopez return to the midfield for their sophomore season ready to make an even larger impact on the scoreboard and at the faceoffs. The attack will be the youngest group for the Vikings this year. With only two seniors, Joe Nakashion and Marc Kotin, returning, the coaching staff will look to sophomores Tommy Kilderry, Chris Dellavecchia, and junior Peter Volpe to lead the offense. FULL STORY
