  • News: The Honorable Judge Joel B. Meirowitz... Glen Cove Tribute to a Model Citizen, a Model Public Servant

    The main chamber of city hall was filled with smiling faces at the Glen Cove City Council meeting of Tuesday, Jan. 22, no smile larger than that of the Hon. Joel B. Meirowitz, as a portion of the evening was set aside for the city pay tribute to the judge as he embarks on a new stage in his illustrious career. Judge Meirowitz has been a mainstay of Glen Cove for decades and his work extends from prosecution to public service, advocacy to enforcement, mentoring to mediation. As he heads off to Nassau County in his newest incarnation, the city of Glen Cove took the opportunity to thank him for all he has done, congratulate him on his innumerable accomplishments and remind him that there's always something for him to do in town, as it would seem his calendar has more days than most others, and his clock more hours.   • News: GCTA Attends Board Meeting Dressed in Black

    As members of the Glen Cove Board of Education entered the Landing School auditorium on Monday, Jan. 22 following their executive session, they passed through a silent column on either side of the center aisle comprised of a group of 120 Glen Cove teachers, all wearing black T-shirts that read "Teaching without a contract" on the front, and "takes the joy out of teaching" on the back. Many also carried placards stating, "Glen Cove Teachers Deserve a Fair Contract." The teachers union is currently in contract negotiations with the district. Also in the rear of the auditorium was a group of district custodians, there on their own time, with no affiliation to the teachers. FULL STORY

  • Sports: North Shore High School Viking Sports

    North Shore Vikings girls gymnastics had two meets last week. The first, on Tuesday, Jan. 16 was against Great Neck North High School and North Shore took the lead 119.9 to 101.3. Liza Mercadante was the all-round top scorer (28.3) with a high score of 7.7 on vault, 7.5 on beam and 7.6 on the floor exercise. Cassandra McNamara had the high score of 6.6 on the uneven bars. On Thursday, Jan. 18, North Shore took the lead once again against Roslyn High School 129.8/128.25. Liza Mercadante, Cassandra McNamara and Katie Millington gave a great performance for North Shore High School. FULL STORY

  • Sports: Glen Cove High School Big Red Sports

    Big Red wrestled well and the team took third place in the recent annual Cove Cup. Freshman Alex Bogdanich and juniors Steven Paez and Nick Martino all took first place in the round robin tournament. Senior Robbie Nedbor-Gross picked up three pins to take first place and received the team's Outstanding Wrestler Award. FULL STORY
