The Glen Cove Junior Soccer League celebrated its 38th year thanks to so many people. Since it began, new ideas have been introduced and improvements have been made to help the children of our community learn how to play the beautiful game of soccer. Over the years so many children have passed through the program that now some of them are coaching their own young ones. The GCJSL has a wonderful reputation in the Long Island soccer community and is a proud and upstanding member. We did not become such a respected organization without the help of many people who volunteer their time and effort. The GCJSL "team" involves countless people from the community, all of whom provide a selfless service to the children of Glen Cove. We have much to give thanks for so I'll start at the very beginning. Thank you, Marco Malusa, our founder, for 38 years of dedicated service. Generations of children from our club are forever in your debt. Along with Marco, the GCJSL Board of Directors and friends work hard all year to run the program. In case you haven't noticed, soccer is played all year long in Glen Cove with fall and spring sessions, in addition to our soccer summer camps and winter indoor practices. Before the fall season even begins, there is much to be done and many are involved. So many to thank, I hope I remember them all. Thank you, Mayor Ralph Suozzi, for your support throughout the year. Thank you Darcy Belyea, department of recreation director, for the great soccer equipment and a wonderful soccer facility. Thank you, Joe Famliagetti and your grounds crew of Terry, Chris, Brian, Phil, Dave, Gary, Oswaldo and Teodoro for an outstanding job maintaining the fields and always lending a hand. Thank you, Glen Cove Police Department and Special Police for the escort on Parade Day and for always keeping a watchful eye on us. Thank you, Glen Cove Fire Department for anchoring our parade and loaning us the barbecue for Soccerfest. Thank you, Glen Cove EMS for always being ready to help. Thank you, Glen Cove School District for the use of the school fields for our travel program - we are proud to play on them. Thank you, Mary Berhang, Athletic Director at GCHS, and to the GCHS coaches, Pete Falen and Kevin Nolan for supporting our club - we hope to send you better players every year. Thank you, Joe Rizzo, Phil Rizzo, Lou Larice and Mario Morra, for being there and shedding light on us all season long. Thank you, All Soccer Training Academy, for teaching us to become better soccer players. Thank you, Richie and Marco at Valley Sports, for helping us look great and for responding to our many last-minute uniform requests. Thank you, Mike Norman, for keeping us on friendly terms with the IRS. Thank you, Dan Cox, for coordinating our schedules and referees; we hope to get you back some day. Thank you, Avalon Bay Communities, again, for your generous support of Soccerfest. Thank you, Carla Santella, for all the press space. Thank you Cheryl Carmody, Elaine Marinaccio, Cheryl Taheri, Alex Mordo and crews for running the refreshment stand this year. Thanks to the young ladies and young men from GCHS DECA for your help at Soccerfest. Thank you, Mike Galluccio for putting in a command performance at the Soccerfest barbecue - better days are ahead. Thank you to all our travel teams, Rising Starz, Fire, United, Red Rockets, Strikers, Crusaders, Red Fury and Warriors; you represent us well in the Long Island soccer community. Thank you to all our referees for doing a great job under pressure. Thank you, coaches, for your time and all your dedication to our children. Thank you to our 750 plus players who provided us with hours of endless entertainment and great soccer. Thank you to all our families; you are the greatest fans in Glen Cove. I take great pride in being part of this wonderful program. I receive so many compliments about our program and that tells me we are doing a good job. After all, you are our customers. I am proud to serve with my fellow board members, to whom I now would like to extend my gratitude. Thank you, Ken Pilla, for coordinating our highly successful intramural program. Thank you, Martin Carmody, for running registration and recording our thoughts as club secretary. Thank you, Tom Marinaccio for coordinating the refreshment stand and introducing new items every year. Thank you, Marty Shannon, for jump-starting our young stars in the Pre-Travel Soccer Training Program (PST) and as training and travel coordinator. Thank you, Mike Liquori, for maintaining our club website (www.glencovejrsoccer.org) and keeping us in nets, flags and balls. Thank you, Mike Bellissimo, club treasurer, for keeping our suppliers happy and making sure we are solvent. Thank you, Damon Silverstein, club vice president, for once again, this year's very colorful uniforms and fabulous trophies and for always being there. Thanks to all you of you guys for the endless hours talking soccer on the phone when we should be working. All of these people are very special to me because they are my team.

And of course, I must thank my family whom I've dragged into this scene for the last 15 years. Thank you Jillian and Joanna, for standing in the cold with me at Soccerfest and the great job you do as referees. Thank you Dan, for your work as the trainer of the Crusaders. Thank you Brian, for helping with the heavy lifting at Soccerfest and for running the barbecue. Finally, a hug and a kiss for my wife Lois, for coordinating the HS volunteers at Soccerfest, for helping me keep my thoughts organized, for your understanding and for letting me have all this fun. Thank you all so much. Happy Thanksgiving to all.
