Congratulations to the Glen Cove High School Big Red boys varsity soccer team for making it to the first round of playoffs. The first playoff game will be played this Saturday at a time and place to be announced. Go Big Red! The Glen Cove girls tennis team finished its season with an improved final record, 7 - 7, up from last year's 6 - 8 season. Two seniors, Jamie Carlson and Natasha Gregorio, finished All-Division. Other top finishers were: first Doubles - Alyssa Oh and Jennifer Lee; second doubles - Reena Walia and Sara Graziosi; fourth doubles - Heidi Sloane and Catherine Voegtlen. Singles players finished strong also: first singles Mariel Fredericksen and third singles Danielle Silas. Other team members who contributed to this year's record include Jacqueline Szlakowicz, Maria Sicuranza, Christine McDonald, Christina Zanini, Mili Patel, Ashley Casale, and Rebecca Salentino. Big Red will miss departing seniors Mariel, Alyssa, Natasha, Jackie, Maria and Rebecca and the players and coaches wish them the best of luck in college next year. Returning as seniors will be Danielle, Reena, Sara, Catherine, Heidi and Christine. Returning as juniors will be Ashley, Christina and Mili. With many returning players next year, the team hopes to finish in the top three and to make playoffs. That would be thrilling for all.
