Waterfront Discussion Towers Over Cell Issues
What was scheduled to be a pre-council meeting of the Glen Cove City Council followed by a public hearing to consider a moratorium on cell tower installations in the city turned into a three-hour discussion of the Glen Cove waterfront development proposal within an hour of the meeting being convened on Tuesday, Sept. 19.

GCVFD Awarded Vital Grant for Life-Saving Equipment
The Treiber Group, LLC and Fireman's Fund Insurance Company have awarded a significant grant to the Glen Cove Volunteer Fire Department that will fund the purchase of life-saving equipment and will help firefighters ensure their safety and the safety of everyone in our community. Mayor Ralph V. Suozzi said, "As a former member of the Glen Cove Volunteer Fire Department, I know how critically important it is to have the proper equipment to meet the challenge our firefighters face. I thank the Treiber Group, LLC and the Fireman's Fund for their continued support and for the added comfort it provides to our volunteer families when their loved ones are called to action."

North Shore High School Vikings Sports
The North Shore Varsity football team lost a tough-fought battle to a very good Valley Stream South team this week. South opened the scoring early in the game with a 42-yard run, but the Vikings answered right back with a 39 yard touchdown pass. Quarterback Ronnie Irving bootlegged outside the tackles and threw a picture perfect pass to Tim Martino in the end zone. Place kicker Taylor McGrath split the uprights to tie the game.

Glen Cove High School Big Red Sports
The Big Red varsity girls' volleyball team is set to record another year of ace play. The team saw three senior players graduate last year and has most of their starters returning. The season is off to a spectacular start, with a record of 5-0.
