  • News: More on Moratorium at GC Council

    The Glen Cove City Council meeting of Feb.28 began with a continuation of last meeting's public hearing in regard to a proposed temporary moratorium on residential subdivisions in the city of Glen Cove. Mayor Ralph V. Suozzi informed attendees that a transcript of comments made during the hearing held on Feb. 14, as well as written comments received after the hearing, is available for residents to read at the Glen Cove Public Library, at the city hall reception area or electronically by emailing a request to Residents may also call the mayor's office at 676-3505.     It was with great enthusiasm and support, albeit little surprise, that County Executive Thomas R. Suozzi stood before a crowd of more than 1,200 cheering supporters on Saturday morning to announce that yes, he is declaring his candidacy for governor of New York State. FULL STORY

  • Sports: Glen Cove Wrestling Finishes Season at Counties

    The Big Red wrestling team finished the season with the qualifying tournament held at North Shore High School and the counties. The tournament looked to be tough with five-time Nassau County Champion Macarthur High School competing in it. The Glen Cove wrestlers were ready despite the fact that, due to injuries, the team would be competing without captains Gabe Tomaselli and Brian Monahan. Glen Cove entered 11 wrestlers into the tournament resulting in nine wrestlers placing. Ryan Pina hit a last minute ankle pick taking his opponent to his back but came short on points. Pat Cook wrestled well but lost to his Garden City opponent. FULL STORY

  • Sports: Golden Gloves Boxing in Glen Cove March 3

    The New York Daily News 79th anniversary Golden Gloves boxing will return to Glen Cove on March 3 at Glen Cove High School. On the fight card for the evening are four Glen Cove Boxing Academy pugilists: Gary Grella, Kevin Murphy, Carlos Valle and Edwin Vazquez. Also on March 3, the academy will honor Phil Capobianco as Man of the Year and a scholarship will be given to a deserving student. Tickets are available at Cove Deli on School Street; L.I. Fitness on Cedar Swamp Road; American Graphics on Glen Cove Avenue and Glen Cove City Hall, third floor, recreation department. FULL STORY
