The year 2006 has just begun, but so far it's been a good one for Glen Cove High School senior Jamie Downer. Jamie, an outstanding athlete and scholar, recently signed a letter of intent with SUNY Stony Brook, which provides her with a full scholarship to the university and enables her to compete on the school's softball team.

In addition to softball, Jamie is an accomplished volleyball and basketball player and has been recognized by Nassau County for her athletic talent in all her sports, and by New York State for her softball talents.

"I am very proud of Jamie," stated Softball Coach Craig Johanson. "She has shown true class and dedication to the school and city. She is a highlight in all aspects of life. She is a leader, a good citizen and a role model for anyone she encounters. I wish her the best."
