On Tuesday, Nov. 1, Mayor Mary Ann Holzkamp greeted the Yaraghi family at the front door of their new, 50,000 square foot Safavieh Fine Home Furnishings flagship store on School Street in Glen Cove's downtown business district.

Earlier this year, the Yaraghi family purchased the former Swezey's building and promptly began a complete renovation of this significant retail space in the city's downtown. At the time of purchase, Arash Yaraghi said, "We saw Glen Cove as a thriving, prospering city headed toward the right direction. Jumping on that bandwagon and adding to that momentum, we felt, was beneficial to us and will be good for downtown Glen Cove."

According to Mr. Yaraghi, his company had been eyeing Glen Cove as the place to duplicate their success in Stamford, Connecticut. Mr. Yaraghi further stated that the help and support of Mayor Mary Ann Holzkamp was a key factor in locating their newest store in Glen Cove.

Mayor Holzkamp said, "I couldn't be happier. Attracting such a quality, high-end retailer is further evidence that our downtown is truly revitalized. We couldn't have picked a better use. Safavieh will expand on the home furnishing retailers we already have in our downtown."

The store is divided into 12 large galleries each featuring a single brand or a single look or lifestyle. This brings a large store down to a shop-able scale and makes customer selection easier. Safavieh will offer the home furnishings collections of Baker, Henredon, Maitland-Smith, Ralph Lauren, Martha Stewart and more as well as exclusive imports from Europe and Asia and Safavieh's famous Oriental rugs. An experienced group of talented interior designers will be available to meet every client's needs.
