Milton Cappel, a long-time resident of Glen Cove, passed away on Oct. 4, 2005 as a result of complications of a brief illness. He was 82. Mr. Cappel moved to Glen Cove from the Bronx in 1947, deciding that this cozy bedroom community would be the perfect place for him and his wife Gloria to settle and start a family that eventually came to include five children. An avid horticulturist, Mr. Cappel enjoyed an excellent reputation in the community and beyond. In 1964, Mr. Cappel was chosen as the Grounds Superintendent for The New York Worlds Fair. He was personally responsible for the design, production, and maintenance of many of the memorable landscape displays at The Fair. Active in the community, Mr. Cappel gave his time freely to various causes including B'nai B'rith, the Men's Club of Congregation Tifereth Israel, as well as the High Holiday Choir. He also donated his services to the Glen Cove Police Department, aiding them in his capacity as an experienced Beekeeper. Glen Cove's Finest would call upon him when a distressed resident called them to report a swarm of bees. Mr. Cappel's first wife, Gloria, passed away in 1985.
