BOE: Glen Cove High School Wrongly Rated SINI
Glen Cove Board of Education President Richard Tortorici opened the board meeting of Monday, Sept.19, with an announcement and a smile. "I am very happy and proud to announce," he said, "that the Glen Cove Select Chorale will be at Shea Stadium on Sept. 29, singing the national anthem before the Mets' game." It was the audience's turn to smile...and applaud. Mr. Tortorici said he hoped some Glen Covers would be at the game, so they could say to the people next to them, "That's my school."

Glen Cove Business Community Aids Katrina Victims
On Friday, Sept. 16, on the grounds of Slant/Fin Corporation on Garvies Point Road, an 18-wheeler was filled to overflowing with goods for victims of Hurricane Katrina selflessly donated by concerned residents of Glen Cove and environs, spreading so far as New York City and New Jersey.

Three Hundred Young Sailors to Race in Hempstead Harbor
On Saturday, Sept. 24, 300 of the best young sailors in the US, ages 8 to 15, will launch from Harry Tappen Beach for the start of the Optimist Atlantic Coast Championships. Fleets of small boats will fill Hempstead Harbor on both Saturday and Sunday. Spectators will be able to view the race from Sunset Park in Sea Cliff and Morgan Park in Glen Cove.

The 2005 varsity girls volleyball season is off and running. Captains this year are seniors Melanie Guardino, Lauren Ko and Suzanne Long. Returning players are Amanda Magnuson, Liz Muscarella and Carly Langer. Newcomers are Allison O'Connell, Cassie Knox, Kris McCormack and Kerry Heimer.
