Herbert G. Wellington Jr., 85, Chairman of H.G. Wellington & Co. Inc. since 1965, died at his home in Locust Valley on Aug. 15, 2005 at age 85. He successfully led the firm through the ever-changing and diverse Wall Street environment for many years.
Mr. Wellington grew up in Rye, NY, and attended St. Mark's School in Southboro, MA, graduating in 1939. He attended Princeton University where he studied business and literature. He graduated in 1943, married Patricia Bull, and joined the US Army. He served in WWII as a first lieutenant and member of Signal Corps, participated in the D-Day invasion of Normandy, and served throughout the rest of the war in France, Germany and the Philippines.
Among his many and diverse interests were his involvement in hunting, fishing and conservation. Mr. Wellington was a strong early supporter of the International Atlantic Salmon Foundation (now Atlantic Salmon Federation) where he served on the board of directors for many years. He was also deeply involved with the Montana Land Reliance where he played a leadership role in establishing conservation easements. Along the way, he became a very accomplished angler and recognized authority on dry fly fishing for trout and salmon.
Mr. Wellington was a principal founder and long time trustee of Portledge School in Locust Valley. He was instrumental in helping the school achieve its current level of excellence and on weekends could often be found working on the school grounds.
He is survived by his wife Patricia; his sons, Charles, James and William; and his grandchildren, Robin, Michael, James and Emily. Service and interment private. Arrangements made by Dodge-Thomas Funeral Home, Glen Cove.
George Bivona, of Glen Cove, died suddenly on Aug. 16, 2005 at age 54. Husband of Concetta (nee Capobianco). Son of Grace and the late George. Brother of Kathy (Harry), Richard (Susan) and Joanne (John). Son-in- law of Angelo and Pauline Capobianco. Devoted brother-in-law of Maria, Angela (Jeff) and Joseph John (Patricia). Marion Papasidero, of Glenwood Landing, died on Aug. 16, 2005. Mother of Deborah (Peter) Sterling, Barbara (Tony) Milanese, Amy (Tommy) Schuessler, Jaime and Jessica Morsony. Daughter of Albert, Sr. and Alice Papasidero. Sister of Al (Phyllis) and Jeff (Kathy) Papasidero. Mema of Emily, Julian, Dustin, Isabella and Vito. Algretta Collins, of Glen Cove formerly of Oyster Bay on August 17, 2005. Daughter of the late Alberta Collins. Also survived by several cousins. She was an active member of Glen Cove Senior Citizens Center. Service held at Dodge-Thomas Funeral Home, Glen Cove. Interment at Pinelawn Memorial Park.
