  • News: Tornadoes to Waterfront: GC City Council Weathers All

    At the Glen Cove City Council meeting of Tuesday, Aug. 23, the brief regular business part of the meeting included a resolution passed by the council to waive all fees relating to the repair of damages to residential dwellings and the removal of trees as a result of last week's tornado, good news to those residents who have enough to spend to simply have the repairs made.   • News: Ralph Suozzi Makes Independent Run for Mayor

    Last week, Ralph Suozzi announced his candidacy for mayor of Glen Cove, running as an independent candidate. While Mr. Suozzi has not yet ironed out his full platform, he does say that "I am interested in seeing that the city is managed from a business perspective, with a business orientation. I have worked many years in the for-profit world and feel that the process to manage the budget should be more rigorously pursued. The mayor controls money and contracts. I want to make sure that the budget is budgeted properly, and is, indeed, factual. Every decision a mayor makes has financial impact and I want to make sure the city is calling the shots on every development in town, scrutinizing every opportunity to save taxpayers' money."   • Sports: Mayor's Snapper Derby Reels 'Em In

    The Mayor's Snapper Derby this year is one for the record books. A total of 144 children, each with rod and reel in tow, made their way to the Pryibil Beach Pier for a great morning of fishing under the guidance of the Glen Cove Anglers Club with assistance from members of the Matinecock Rod and Gun Club.   • Sports: SAA Swimmers Make Waves at Morgan Park

    If you were standing on the beach at Morgan Park on Saturday morning, you would have seen 156 aquanauts of all ages dive, jump or slide into Long Island Sound for an early morning fundraising swim to the beach in the park. The event was Swim Across America's (SAA) Sound to the Cove - Swim to Fight Cancer, an annual summer happening in our town to raise funds in the fight against cancer. FULL STORY
