Lieutenant Whitton of the Glen Cove Police Department has reported that on the evening of June 24, the Glen Cove Police Department conducted an investigation of licensed premises within the city limits believed to be selling alcohol to underage customers. According to Lieutenant Whitton, undercover members of Glen Cove Police Department, along with the State Liquor Authority, Nassau County Fire Marshals Office and Glen Cove Code Enforcement, made visits to 16 locations that sell alcohol. Of the 16, 11 were found to be selling alcohol to an underage person. Lt. Whitton said, "Members of the Glen Cove Police made 10 arrests for a penal law misdemeanor charge of unlawfully dealing with a child. Members of the State Liquor Authority and the Nassau County Fire Marshals Office issued a combined total of 23 summonses for various violations to area bars. Glen Cove Code Enforcement issued a number of code violations as well."
Lt. Whitton stated that the investigation went very well and the cooperation by all agencies involved was outstanding, adding that the police will continue to monitor locations that sell alcohol and take proactive measures to ensure that sales are not made to underage persons.
