St. Rocco's Rededication of WWII Honor Roll
I was honored to be called by the restoration committee to attend the rededication of St. Rocco's WWII Memorial. In 1943,when the humble parishioners put up these plaques, I was here as a 12-year-old awed by these fighting parishioners who answered Uncle's Sam's call to arms. This dedicated restoration committee, consisting of Lou and Rogelia Oporto, Vincent Suozzi and Fred Galante worked diligently together with Senator Carl Marcellino, who was significant in obtaining a grant from New York State to restore these aged, cracked marble plaques that were engraved with names of first generation Italian-American boys who answered this country's call in 1941.

North Shore High School Vikings Sports
It was at a practice during Christmas vacation in 1999 that the North Shore track team received the sad news that one of its own, Peter Swanson, had lost his life in a tragic car accident the night before. In the days following, the team thought of ways to keep Pete's memory alive for track & field. It was decided to name the 400 meter sprint event after him at the Viking's annual Invitational Track Meet.
