On Tuesday, May 17 and Wednesday, May 18, the Vikings traveled to Mitchel Park to compete in the County Championship meet. In this meet all the teams in Nassau County are separated by size into three classifications. The Vikings competed in Class A, the small schools section. Once again Chris Bauer won first place in the 400m intermediate hurdles. This is a great achievement for Chris because he had struggled in the past. By showing determination through a series of setbacks, Chris has shown that he is truly a champion. The entire team and coaching staff are very proud of our county champion. In the shot put, junior Mike Ferrara made an impressive throw of 40' 8" that earned him fourth place and a medal. Mike's athleticism, determination and willingness to learn a sport he never competed in before, has brought him far in this event. Great things are hoped for next season.
Several of the athletes will be traveling to Mitchel Park May 24 and 25 to compete in the Nassau County State Qualifier meet. The overall winner in each event will represent Nassau County Division II schools in the state meet next month. The North Shore lineup includes Chris Bauer in the 400m intermediate hurdles, senior Matt Freiman in the 110 high hurdles, and senior Johnny Chang in the long-jump. Good Luck to all athletes!

The softball season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs with a 5-4 loss to Division. It looked like a potential upset of the fourth seed by the 13th seeded Vikings as two-out RBI hits by Kelly Henry and Kaitlyn Silka gave North Shore an early 2-0 lead. Division came back to take a 5-2 lead into the final inning, but North Shore would not go quietly. In the seventh, Christina DeSousa knocked in Kelly Henry and Cori Gasser brought home Lauren Silka, but the Vikings could not get any closer, losing 5-4.
Four members of the varsity squad earned awards from their play during the season. Meg Schenkel earned All-County honors based upon her offensive numbers and defensive versatility. She led the team in many offensive categories including hits (32), batting average (.438), doubles (9), and RBIs (24). Meg also earned three wins while pitching and struck out 75 batters in 77 innings. Cassandra Knox and Cori Gasser earned All-Conference honors. Knox had eight wins and six losses with a 2.17 ERA while striking out 87 in 74 1/3 innings. She hit .343 with two homeruns and 17 RBIs. The fourth award winner was Kaitlyn Silka, who earned an All-Division selection based upon her .368 average, 20 RBIs and clutch late inning hitting (three-game winning hits).
The coaches would like to thank the three seniors, Christina DeSousa, Cori Gasser, and Katie Behar for their hard work throughout their careers. The coaching staff looks forward to big things in the future from the many talented returning players.

The golf team concluded its season with a three-stroke victory over Plainview High School on Monday, May 16. Sweet revenge against a team that beat the Vikings by one stroke just a few weeks ago. The Vikings ended their season with 7 wins and 5 losses. A vast improvement from last year and the most wins by North Shore's golf team in years. Congratulations to the golf team on a fine season.
A second congratulations to Nick Kelly (8th best average in Nassau County) and Robert Kraft, who qualified as individuals for the Nassau County Tournament at Bethpage State Park on Tuesday, May 24. They will compete against all the other elite golfers in Nassau County for All County and All-State honors. Good luck, guys.
