The Calvary African Methodist Episcopal Church on Cottage Row in Glen Cove recently celebrated its 143rd anniversary with a grand service. The keynote speaker was the Reverend Dr. Calvin O. Butts III, pastor of the Abyssinian Baptist Church and president of SUNY Old Westbury. Reverend Craig Wright, pastor of Calvary AME, welcomed Glen Cove Mayor Mary Ann Holzkamp, Nassau County Executive Thomas R. Suozzi, New York State Senator Carl Marcellino, New York State Assemblyman Chuck Lavine, County Legislator Diane Yatauro and numerous community and church members including Jean Hersey, director of the Dr. Alberta Hersey Foundation, Pat Blanco from La Fuerza Unida, Bishop Richard Norris, Reverend Vernon Lowe, Franklin Ward, Reshid Walker, Sharon Beckett, Wilma Tootle from Bethel AME Church, Reverend Charles Watkins, Jr., Alfred Evans, and Joseph Tolbert.
