  • News: Community Members Join BOE in Budget Forum

    Last Monday evening, parents, school administrators, teachers and retired teachers, representatives of the Glen Cove Chamber of Commerce, Coalition for Glen Cove members, and business and community persons joined the Glen Cove Board of Education to discuss and input ideas and concerns about the 2005-06 school budget. Also in attendance were two people who have picked up and are circulating petitions for the upcoming school board election, Fred Moore, Section 8 program administrator and EEO officer for the City of Glen Cove, and Frank Bouza, recently retired buildings and grounds supervisor for the Glen Cove School District.   • News: 'Suicide by Cop' Thwarted by Glen Cove's Finest

    According to Det. Sgt. Thomas Fitzpatrick of the Glen Cove Police Department, on Jan. 31 at about 11:15 a.m., Glen Cove police responded to a call of a man wielding a sword at the Brewster Street apartment complex. In the building, officers encountered a man later identified as 22-year-old Jeffrey Nelson-Lepp, who had moved to Glen Cove about a month ago from Queens. He was wearing blood soaked clothing and holding a samurai-type sword. Sgt. Fitzpatrick reported that the man faced off with the officers, holding the sword over his head and yelling "Shoot me, shoot me, I want you to kill me." Officers Mancusi, Breen and DiMaggio held the man at gunpoint, repeatedly telling him to drop the sword. Nelson-Lepp then took a deep breath and charged at the officers with the sword held over his head. FULL STORY

  • Sports: Finley Boys Basketball Has Great Season

    Congratulations to the Finley Middle School boys basketball team and Coach Sirakis on a terrific season. After falling in their first two games, the team rallied to win seven of their last nine games to finish the year at 7-4 (including a five-game winning streak to end the season). The team averaged 50 points per game and yielded on 37 per game. Members of this year's team included Michael Granados, Douglas Tripp, Eric Tripp, Carlos Granados, Kaliym Beatty, Christian Floro, Tyler Ravener, Terry Jackson, Troy Ashby, Melsahn Basabe, Zach Rubin, Joey Fiorino, Kyle Hansen, Michael Capobianco and Kyree Washington. A special thank you to Angelo Capobianco for being the team manager. The team has made their parents, our school and their coach proud. FULL STORY
