North Shore Boys & Girls Club is introducing a lacrosse development program for first and second-graders. The program will consist of separate clinics for both boys and girls interested in learning the basic skills from experienced coaches who have played the game at both the high school and college levels.
Staff includes former lacrosse players/coaches from successful high school programs including Garden City, Great Neck South, Manhasset, Our Lady of Mercy and Port Washington. College lacrosse experience includes C. W. Post, NC State, UMass, UPenn, Syracuse and Tulane.
The lacrosse development clinic format is patterned after one currently being used in Manhasset which generously shared the instruction syllabus and field drills that have been tested in their long successful PAL program. The clinic will provide a structured and well-supervised environment for youngsters eager to learn the requisite skills and decide if they wish to continue into the North Shore PAL lacrosse program, which begins in the third grade.
The volunteer coaches for this program are all well experienced in the sport and wish to assist in providing and building an inclusive quality youth lacrosse program in the North Shore School District.
Fee is $75 per child. Registration will be held on Jan. 10, 11, 12, 25, and 26 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the North Shore Boys & Girls Club, located at 200 Glen Head Road in the Glen Head Community Center between the firehouse and American Legion Building in Glen Head.
