Friends Academy is extremely proud of its fall student/athletes. Competing in section VIII of the Nassau County Public School Athletic League, both the boys and girls varsity soccer teams were awarded their respective conference sportsmanship award. In addition, the boys team won the sportsmanship award for all of Nassau County. Playing for the Long Island Championship, both teams lost against Mattituck High School.
Friends Academy Director of Athletics Mary Jacobson says, "Congratulations to Coach Baker and Coach Abbene (girls soccer) and Coach Lindner, Coach Seibert, Coach Wynot and Coach Posada (boys soccer) and their teams for this accomplishment. We know that good sportsmanship always starts with the modeling of the coaches and works its way down to the team. We have much to be proud of as our teams and coaches continue to represent our school in such a positive way. For me this is one of the finest awards a school can receive because it exemplifies the values that we are trying to instill in our teams: respect for the officials, opponents and themselves as well as honoring the game by playing within the spirit of the rules."
Members of the boys soccer team receiving Nassau County recognition were Scott Witthuhn, all county honorable mention and Andrew Giocondi and Matt Donoghue, all conference.
Receiving recognition from the girls soccer team were Emily Ocner, scholar/athlete honors and all class C and Kim White, all conference.
