City Council Honors Royal Family
Mayor Mary Ann Holzkamp opened the city council meeting of Dec. 14 by recognizing "the family of Royal Holiday Travel. I say the family, because if you ask one person for help, you get them all." Susan Challender, her mother Matilda Fenech, her brother-in-law Walter Mazzeo and Walter's son Andrew Mazzeo each received a citation from the mayor, praising their willingness to do so much to make Glen Cove "the place to be." Most recently, Ms Challender, president of the Downtown BID, coordinated the BID's Downtown Winter Festival, this past weekend.

Planning Board Approves Suozzi's New Digs with C and Rs
At a public hearing at its Dec. 8 meeting, the Glen Cove Planning Board heard a revised proposal for a minor subdivision and site plan for proposed lots at Crescent Beach Road, north of Woolsey Avenue...more commonly known as "the place Tom Suozzi bought."

Friends Academy Varsity Soccer Teams Win Sportsmanship Awards
Friends Academy is extremely proud of its fall student/athletes. Competing in section VIII of the Nassau County Public School Athletic League, both the boys and girls varsity soccer teams were awarded their respective conference sportsmanship award. In addition, the boys team won the sportsmanship award for all of Nassau County. Playing for the Long Island Championship, both teams lost against Mattituck High School.

Three North Shore varsity football seniors were honored at the Nassau County High School Football Coaches Association's 39th Annual Gridiron Banquet, held on December 6 at the Crest Hollow Country Club.
